Afterpay Australian Fashion Week is right around the corner (mark your calendars — it kicks off Monday, May 9), and while we eagerly wait to see what street style we’ll be served this year, we thought we’d take a look back at some of our favourite from past years.
From timeless all-white ensembles to a simple jeans-and-a-puffer jacket look that somehow still looks elegant, these off-the-runway looks prove not only that nothing is off-limits, but also why Australians have made such a mark on the global fashion scene. So, ’til we see this year’s…
This look by photographer and style editor Candice Lake from 2013 proves just how timeless an all-white ensemble can be. Lake wore Camilla and Marc and shoes by Willow.
Another all-white look (can you tell I’m a fan?), though this time, finished off with a pair of nude Christian Louboutin pumps, Eleanor Pendleton wore an Ellery dress and a Daily Edited clutch to Fashion Week in 2015.
Sara Donaldson showed us how to make a puffer jacket look chic in 2018 when she wore a waist-length black coat over cropped jeans and pointed heels outside the Camilla and Marc show.
Known for her minimalist and elevated style, Talisa Sutton paired a white button up shirt with wide sleeves with navy pants and a black bag at Australian Fashion Week in 2017.
Jade Tuncdoruk went for tonal at Fashion Week in 2021. She wore a Mossman trench coat over a Camilla and Marc shirt, Oroton blazer and Bec and Bridge skirt. A Dior bag completed the look.
Model Elodie Russell gave us a lesson in how to jazz up a basic black suit. She added pops of yellow in the form of a Bottega Veneta shoes and bag, as well as a Nue Studio top, to a Dion Lee blazer and pants.
Not afraid to experiment with trends, but still always looking chic and effortless, Eleanor Pendleton deserves two spots on this list for her Fashion Week looks. In 2015, she wore an outfit from Ixiah, paired with a Celine handbag.
Yan Yan Chan went for a twist on a head-to-toe suit at Fashion Week in 2021, wearing this beige number from new designer Jordan Dalah with lace details over the sleeves and waist.
Whoever thought you couldn’t wear head-to-toe yellow? Nadia Fairfax showed us how at Fashion Week in 2021 when she wore a Paris Georgia top and pants and Bottega Veneta bag, all in yellow, paired with sunglasses from Banbe.
Proving she really can pull off anything, Kiwi model Georgia Fowler went for matching trousers and a blazer in a plaid green and purple print at Fashion Week in 2017.
